We are all artists, whether or not we have yet discovered it. As quilters, we have a wonderful medium in which to explore our artistic potentials, and the tools of our time allow us to produce exciting, original images in our quilts we may never have believed possible, regardless of our known drawing abilities (or "lack" of them).
In this workshop, you will learn some of the basic elements of design, do a few simple, fun drawing exercises, and become acquainted with some of the many easy tools and techniques available to help design and produce original art quilts with images you choose. Bring photographs or simple drawings and design your own art quilt pattern from these.
All skill levels are welcome, and the words "I can't draw" are outlawed! Visit my Student Gallery pages under Classes on my website to see beautiful student projects done in my workshops. We will be using textile inks, markers and paints, so come dressed to play and have fun.

On clear nights, while working late in my studio, I often go out on my deck to enjoy the Milky Way, the moon, the planets, and - when I am especially lucky - shooting stars. I created the Framed in Starlight pattern as the perfect combination of earthbound and heavenly images: sixteen Log Cabin blocks surrounded by twenty Shooting Star blocks.
This is a fun quilt! I used the color wheel and batik fabrics to create the illusion of starlight and movement. The book is required: "M'Liss Rae Hawley's: Fat Quarter Quilts" it is available at your local quilt shop, on-line; www.amazon.com, www.ctpub.com and www.equilter.com.
